[http://www.cubrc.org CUBRC, Inc.] and the [http://www.ncor.us National Center for Ontological Research] (NCOR, [http://www.buffalo.edu University at Buffalo]) will host a one-day workshop entitled '''Ontologies for Information Integration (OI2): ''Focus on security, intelligence, and emergency response'''''. OI2 aims to foster awareness of and collaboration between ontology-sharing efforts across all facets of the US government. The workshop will feature individual presentations ontological development and exchange. This workshop supports the Distributed Development of a Shared Semantic Resource (DDSSR) initiative.

== DDSSR Project Description ==

The goal of the Distributed Development of a Shared Semantic Resource (DDSSR) pilot project is to validate a method of extending the horizontal integration of intelligence data within the framework of the US Army’s Distributed Common Ground System Standard Cloud (DSC) initiative to new providers and users of this data. The guiding strategy will be to build a set of ontologies, not for a specific group’s needs or used to annotate a specific type of data only, but rather to represent the domains of reality with which all of the different groups are concerned and which all of these different sorts of data describe. Based on its success in other domains, we are confident that this methodology will advance the needed horizontal integration of data.

Ontology for the Intelligence Community is a workshop that aims to address issues arising in the development work of participant groups, and ensure coordination of successive stages of the work. Attendees will be presented with a methodology for multi-community ontology development, and provided with support by personnel trained in the use of the methodology. The DDSSR pilot project members aim to impart the knowledge and understanding of a set of well-managed, cost-effective, non-redundant, and high-quality ontologies that address the data integration and analysis needs of the intelligence community.
