Background
The goal of the Joint Doctrine Ontology Project is to create a formal representation of the content of (selected parts of) Doctrine that is designed to
- - help understand logically how different parts of doctrine interact
- - enable the creation of flexible visualizations of how different parts of doctrine interact
- - understand dependences between definitions
- - ensure that changes in definitions cascade appropriately through all dependent definitions
- - enable more efficient web access to and discovery of doctrinal knowledge and definitions of a sort that will facilitate greater coordination of training and operations particular as these involve IT systems working alongside human beings
- - provide a benchmark for consistent agile ontology development across DoD and IC.
The project is directed by Barry Smith of the National Center for Ontological Research and is being carried out under two Rome Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) projects "Mission Assurance through Mission Awareness (MAMA)" and "Living Plan".
