Fadel, Fox & Gruninger (1994) introduced “competency questions” as one of the criteria to judge the acceptability of an applied ontology. What, if any, would be competency questions for a foundational (arguably, “philosophical”) ontology?

Richard de Rozario is an information systems researcher working at the Hunt Lab for Intelligence Research (University of Melbourne, Australia). His work includes applied ontology research in the defence and intelligence domain. He holds a doctorate in Philosophy (Applied Ontology) from the University of Melbourne, and has previously worked in industry in the areas of information systems and risk analysis
